If you search for my name, you’ll find two of us. One Michael Gane is an Emeritus Professor who has spent his life writing brilliant, dense theories on the sociology of signs, simulation, and the symbolic power of rust and decay.

Then there is me—the Michael Gane who has spent thirty years in the actual shadows, with a camera in hand, feeling the weight of those same subjects.

While he explores the why of the “Image-World” through philosophy, I explore the how through light and silence.

My work in The Antechamber and The Forgotten Room isn’t a study of sociology, but a study of the soul. It’s the difference between reading a map of a forest and actually standing among the trees in the rain.

It is a strange and beautiful alignment. He provides the words for the history we are losing; I provide the visual evidence that it still holds a quiet, haunting power.
