Terms and Conditions
These terms apply to the purchase of fine art photographic prints from michael-gane.com and to your use of this website. Please read them before making an enquiry. By placing an order you agree to them.
Prints are sold by Michael Gane, sole trader, of 46 Bath Road Beckington Village, Frome, Somerset. BA11 6SH], United Kingdom. Contact: michael@michael-gane.com.
1. How a sale is made
There is no online checkout on this website. Every print is sold by enquiry. You contact me through the enquiry form about a specific work, I confirm availability, edition status and price in writing, and payment is arranged directly. A contract is formed only when I confirm your order in writing and payment has cleared — not when you submit an enquiry.
I reserve the right to decline an order, including where a work has already been sold, where a pricing error has occurred, or where an edition has closed.
2. Prices and payment
All prices are quoted in pounds sterling. The price confirmed in writing at the time of order is the price that applies, regardless of any later change to published prices. Payment is required in full before a print goes to production. Shipping is quoted separately where applicable.
3. Editions and authenticity
Work is released either as a single edition — one print only, 36 × 24 inches on Hahnemühle Photo Rag 308gsm — or as an edition of five at 24 × 16 inches. The tier is stated on each work’s page and confirmed at the point of enquiry.
Every print is issued with a signed certificate of authenticity recording the title, reference code, edition and date of issue. Once an edition is closed it is never reopened, reissued at another size, or reprinted in another medium. Further detail on how editions are held and recorded is set out under prints and editions.
4. Printing, paper and colour
Prints are produced individually on archival cotton rag paper. Cotton rag holds ink differently to a screen: blacks sit deeper, highlights are softer, and the surface carries a faint tooth you can feel with a fingertip. Minor variation between prints is a property of the process, not a fault.
Screens vary in brightness, contrast and colour calibration. The image you see on your monitor or phone is an approximation. If exact tonal match matters to you, say so at the enquiry stage and I will describe the print’s character honestly before you commit.
5. Delivery
Prints are made to order. Typical production and dispatch is 7–14 working days from cleared payment; I will confirm timing when your order is placed. Work is despatched in protective archival packaging by tracked carrier.
For international orders, any import duty, tax or customs charge levied by the destination country is the responsibility of the buyer. Risk in the goods passes to you on delivery.
6. Cancellation, returns and damage
You may return a print within 14 days of receipt. Return postage is paid by the buyer. The print must be returned in its original packaging and in its original condition, and the certificate of authenticity must be returned with it — a print without its certificate cannot be resold as part of the edition.
If a print arrives damaged in transit, it is replaced at my cost. Tell me within 7 days of delivery and send photographs of the damage and the outer packaging.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
7. Copyright and use of images
All photographs, text and design on this website are the copyright of Michael Gane. Buying a print transfers ownership of that physical object and nothing else. Copyright, reproduction rights and commercial licensing remain with me.
Images may not be copied, reproduced, printed, resold, used in training datasets, or published in any form without written permission. Sharing a photograph of a print hanging in your own home is welcome and always has been.
8. Locations
Some of the places in this work are not named, and that is deliberate.
Where a building is fragile, privately held, or simply unknown to most people, I do not disclose where it stands — not in the writing, not in the file metadata, not in conversation. Keeping a location private protects the place itself, and it protects the work from being stood in front of and duplicated by the next person with a camera. A photograph of somewhere anyone can find is a photograph anyone can take.
Where a location is named — a cathedral, a parish church, a stretch of coast — it is named because it is already public and there is nothing left to protect. Provenance in my work rests on the fact that I stood there, in that cold, in that dust, at that hour. It has never rested on telling anyone how to follow me. 9. Website content
This website is provided for information. Availability, pricing and edition status may change without notice, and confirmation at the point of enquiry always takes precedence over anything published here. I am not responsible for the content of any external site linked from these pages.
10. Liability
My liability in connection with any order is limited to the price paid for the work. I am not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.
11. Changes to these terms
These terms may be updated from time to time. The version in force at the date your order is confirmed is the version that applies to that order.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
