The Collector's Vault · Singular Work
The Eternal Repose
Edition of 3 · 40 × 30 inches · Museum-Grade Archival Cotton Rag · £1,595
She has lain here for centuries. Marble, yet barely distinguishable from sleep — the drapery settled as though breath might still move it, the face tipped just so, carrying no distress and no peace, only the absolute quiet of something that has passed beyond both.
A single candle burns beside her. Its light finds the ridges of the carved cloth, rakes across the curve of a cheekbone, and loses itself in the darkness behind — where a gothic window stands as nothing more than a suggestion, a geometry faintly traced against the black. The cathedral, the candle, the figure: each one outlasting the other in a different way.
What remains when everything that once surrounded a thing has fallen away? This image holds that question without answering it. That restraint is where it lives — in kinship with Two Stones One Fire, where stone, light, and time speak in a similar, deliberate quiet. It belongs, too, within the wider territory of Bone and Marble — a body of work built around English funerary monuments and the particular silence that stone holds in place of the living.
Stone keeps vigil where flesh no longer can.

There are three of these in the world. Once all three have found their homes, this edition closes permanently — no reprint, no variant, no exception. It belongs in a room that can hold silence, and in the hands of someone who understands that certain things are not acquired so much as kept. Part of The Collector's Vault, a selection of Michael's most singular work across his prints and editions.
