The Weight of Silence

Objects do not simply age — they absorb. This scale has not been used in years, yet it remains burdened by what it once measured. Dust, cobwebs, and metal carry the memory of repetition, of hands that once trusted it, of balances once sought and never perfectly achieved.

I am drawn to moments like this because they resist drama. Nothing is happening, and yet everything has already happened. The silence here is not emptiness; it is accumulated presence. Time has settled rather than passed.
