The Threshold of Silence: What Lies Behind the Locked Door?
There is something inherently magnetic about a closed door.
In a world that demands transparency—where everything is open, visible, and bright—a locked door represents the last true luxury:
The Unknown.
When I found this doorway, it wasn't the decay that stopped me. It wasn't the cobwebs stretching like fine silk across the wood, or the autumn leaves gathering at the threshold like unread letters.
It was the light.
That single, piercing beam escaping from within. It suggests that while the world outside has moved on, something inside is still alive. A memory? A ghost? Or perhaps just the quiet persistence of a room that refuses to be forgotten.
My work has always been about these liminal spaces—the boundaries between the past and the present. We are often told to "open up" and let the light in. But I have found that the most profound beauty is often found in what is kept hidden.
A photograph does not need to answer every question. In fact, the strongest images are the ones that ask them. What is behind this door is not important. The feeling that something is there is everything.
This is the philosophy behind my Sanctum of Shadows collection. It is a study of places that keep their secrets, inviting you to stand at the threshold and listen to the silence.
We spend our lives looking for keys. Sometimes, it is better to just admire the door.
